A ne'er-do-well farmer1 in Cane, Virginia, he married Perry Sue (1857-1927) and wandered out West to try his luck at the mines. Had five children: Perry, Susan, Charlie, Timothy, and one, died in infancy and is buried in Marble Springs' graveyard.
