What we know
1833-1885
Asa Miller's grandmother, and the wisest woman he knew. Had long beautiful white hair1, which she wove into remembrance lockets. Gertrude Miller lived all of her life in Falls Church, Virginia, never straying more than 10 miles from her girlhood home.
Handing Down Wisdom
Gertrude’s grandmother taught
her wisdom in long, even strokes
of her hair brush as it travelled
from her scalp to her waist.
Smooth your journey by
crossing it over and over again.
Untangle any twisted strands
before they become knots.
Every hair in its proper place.
Holding its proper weight.
